Esperanza Chocolate is a small chocolate company that was started in 2019 while founder Joe was working at a high school in West Valley. He relied heavily on his favorite hot chocolate recipe, learned in Peru, to get him through long days. Joe is a farmer and educator, and started thinking about the unnatural nature of the cocoa powder he used in his cocoa recipe. What is cocoa powder anyway? He began researching and determined he wanted a more pure chocolate. After experimenting with everything from store bought bitter chocolate to cocoa nibs, Joe decided to take matters into his own hands. Thanks to the encouragement of his supporting wife Becky, he purchased a special wet grinder and a batch of sustainably raised cocoa beans, and began learning how to roast them correctly and grind them into chocolate.
They both fell deeply in love with the process and the final product and determined they couldn’t keep it to themselves. Family and friends were experimented on until the recipe was ready for the public, and Esperanza Chocolate was born. Joe and Becky currently live and produce chocolate in Logan Utah.
